The Story of Mr & Mrs Cook’s New QA Kitchen

Posted: 10th January 2017

Mr & Mrs Cook decided it was time to create the kitchen of their dreams. As this was going to be a significant expenditure, they obviously wanted to ensure they chose the right local firm to do the job.

Whilst they thought that QA were the right local firm to choose, they wanted to be sure, so they asked us to refurbish their downstairs cloakroom first. We were happy to accept this as a test of our skills and workmanship.

The cloakroom wasn’t at all straight forward – it is a small room with a toilet and wash basin. So, we refurbished the cloakroom – re-plastered, new wall and floor tiles and a new cloakroom suite. To the right of the toilet, we also built a false wall with a sliding door (too small for a hinged door) giving access to the under stairs storage (very useful given the tight space!).

We passed the test. Mr & Mrs Cook were delighted with what we did and asked us to deal with the much larger (and challenging) kitchen project.

The Bespoke QA Kitchen

All of the cupboard / storage units were made to measure and all hand built in QA’s Telford workshop. The height of the ceiling meant the units were made extra tall (2.3 mtrs rather than the standard 2.1 mtrs) to provide more storage and no dust gathering tops! The doors are all white matt handle-less doors giving a very clean and contemporary look.

The Corian worktops were ‘laser fitted’ to achieve a perfect fit with the walls and include a coved upstand to provide seamless edges and joins (no grouting or filler required). The integrated Corian sink also provides a seamless and watertight surface – easy to clean, stunning to look at and extremely hard wearing.

LED strip lights were fitted both under the worktops and around the plinths – all independently wired to allow flexible lighting around the kitchen. The cooker housing was covered by made-to-measure coloured glass to provide an easy clean surface and a gorgeous finish. The ‘peninsular’ shaped breakfast bar uses tailor-made plinths to compensate for the change in floor height and also houses the built-in wine cooler. Nice touch!

The washing machine, dishwasher and microwave are all housed in purpose built cupboards, and all the draws are fitted with anti-slip liners to avoid pots, pans and crockery sliding around as they open and close.

Every inch of storage space was utilised by building bespoke cupboards (some very shallow) to provide a home for everything.

We were so pleased that Mr & Mrs Cook were delighted with the end result. QA had delivered the kitchen of their dreams.

Our thanks to Mr & Mrs Cook for allowing us to work in and talk about the project we undertook on their lovely old property.
